Here’s a Tom Sawyer Perspectives, Version 5.0 preview image that illustrates our new HTML5 rendering in a browser. In this visualization of a microwave network, the drawing view demonstrates a fully-automatic orthogonal layout with orthogonal routing, integrated labeling, precise shape clipping, and slope end routing. Other views, such as the table view and the inspector view, are synchronized with the selection in the drawing view.
We are in the midst of an exciting time, where emerging technologies are creating major paradigm shifts in society. With each new technology, a fantastic opportunity is created. In the last few years, we have seen social networks integrated into businesses and personal lives. New mobile platforms have fundamentally changed the ways in which we access information and the pace at which we communicate with each other. With the rise of cloud computing, elaborate IT set up is no longer necessary and people can access data and applications securely from any internet connection.
On the other hand, these same technologies that make us more efficient are also creating new threats. They are rapidly increasing the pace at which we operate. As a result, missteps have larger, more immediate, and more noticeable impacts. More than ever, organizations will want to adopt to data visualization software and leverage people’s power of pattern recognition to minimize the risk.
As with any technology, there are pros and cons. To facilitate discussion about data visualization technology, I am pleased to announce that Tom Sawyer Software is sponsoring the Visual Insights blog. The intent of the site is to discuss not only the technology of data visualization, but also to create awareness around both the positive and negative impacts it has on society. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and connecting with you.
